Wudhu/Ablution is an echo of the artist’s mind and soul. His choice of medium and artistic process is a representation of his views on mankind and the environment.
Using recycled items, polyurethane and enamel paint to create his artwork, the artist draws the connection between these materials with the current state of mankind, contaminated by the environment in which we live in. The transformative process of turning raw materials into meaningful art is akin to ablution, a ceremonial act of washing oneself to cleanse the soul. The final result here is an expression of the artist’s own self-reflection.
Mr Hamidi obtained his Master’s degree in Painting from the University of Wolverhampton, Midlands, UK in 2002. He has won numerous art awards, including the coveted Philip Morris ASEAN Biennale Art Award in 2000, and Bank Negara’s Kijang Award in 2004. He has exhibited in many group exhibitions in Asia and the UK.
