Through Years and Seconds explores the concept of ageing. The first piece of the diptych explores the skin of different ages, such as those of adolescence and elderly. It depicts the changes that time leaves on skin, showing a close up of blemishes, hyperpigmentation, wrinkles and folds. It is composed in a way that we can observe, identify and interpret the differences and similarities of the different ages.
The second piece zooms in on our dead skin cells or stratum corneum, the top layer of our epidermis. It explores the constant cycle in which we shed and regenerate cells, a natural process that occurs in every passing second we exist. The artwork is a larger than life depiction to bring across this natural phenomenon, which most tend to overlook.
Ms Liem is interested in exploring the human condition through a wide variety of painting techniques to express subjects that intrigue her. She is currently a student in School of the Arts Singapore and has participated in various school exhibitions including a collaboration with the National Library Board, Singapore.
