Artist: Valerie Ng Lay Peng
Title: Into the Ether
Medium: Oil on canvas
Size (cm): 158 x 122
Into the Ether is made up of intertwining colour variations that are carved into shape. They glide through, interconnect, break off and converge; the streamlines and geological curves create slow shifting forms that seem to expand and move across the surface of the artwork.
Here, the fluidity of the colour networks and paths result in an abstract, interweaving ecosystem that has a life and energy of its own. Into the Ether is an exploration of nature and a reflection of how creativity exists in the atmosphere, seen through the artist’s technique of instinctive mark making on the painting.
Ms Ng has taken part in solo and group exhibitions in Singapore and the region. She completed a Fine Art Summer Course at the Slade School of Fine Art in London, UK in 2002 and was also the First Prize winner of the 2004 UOB Painting of the Year (Singapore) competition in the Abstract category.
