Artist: Ananyot Jannual
Title: Impudent Thais
Medium: Mixed media on canvas (Acrylic and oil)
Size (cm): 178 x 148
Impudent Thais is a commentary on the innate superstition of the society, represented in a quirky scene featuring large, oversized objects towering over a community of humans and animals mingling on the ground.
To the artist, a blind belief in objects reflects the degradation of reasoning and deeds, and all superstitions and absurdity are a result of unbridled desires. Here, the scale and size of objects vastly overshadow the tiny populace below, the contrast showing the themes the artist is trying to convey in his artwork.
Mr Jannual is an art student at the Faculty of Painting Sculpture and Graphic Arts in Silpakorn University, Thailand. He has been awarded several prizes in art competitions since 2012, and was also a recipient of the 2015 UOB Painting of the Year (Thailand), Gold Award in the Emerging Artist category.
