Cultural characteristics of races and tribes have been ingrained in the hearts and souls from the past to the present through the symbol of the local cloth weaving, using colours and patterns unique to Northeastern Thailand. The use of colours and the scratching technique perfected by the artist accentuate patterns as more colours are added after scratching. Experiments were carried out along with the creation of more than 20 pieces of materials in the quest to conceptualise the patterns on new and old clothes, while preserving the pricelessness of the fine cultural heritage and way of life. The artist wanted the artwork, Ancestral Heart & Soul to have a high degree of special personalisation, conveyed in an abstract style.
Mr Uttitho is from Ubonrajchathani, Northeastern of Thailand. He is an artist and also an art professor of Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, Mahasarakham University, Thailand and currently the President of Isan Artist Association. He has participated in several group exhibitions in Thailand and overseas. He has won many art competitions including Bronze Medal of the 46th National Exhibition of Art and the Excellency Artist of Asian Awards from Asian of Art Competition by Philip Morris. His abstract artworks reflect the ethnicity and value of Northeastern Thailand local culture in an interesting manner, using patterns of the local cloth that clearly display the ancient way of life.
