The COVID-19 pandemic plunged the world, the economy and our communities into a time of uncertainty and lack, creating new needs for health protection, daily necessities and education support, especially among the disadvantaged in our society.
In 2020, we rallied our colleagues from 18 markets in response to the community needs created by the COVID-19 pandemic. We turned our UOB Heartbeat Run/Walk, our annual flagship regional volunteering and fundraising event, into a virtual and global event by rallying 3,791 participants across 18 markets to raise money for those in need. The virtual run achieved more than 200,000 kilometres and raised a total of S$1.65 million.
Our UOB #UnitedForYou COVID-19 Relief Efforts contribution grew to more than S$2.6 million. It focused on initiatives that supplied personal protective equipment and ventilators to healthcare organisations, grocery and meal packages to disadvantaged families and educational materials for school-going children from disadvantaged homes, across the region.
