At UOB, we recognise the important role of art in supporting sustainability through fostering social inclusiveness. We believe that art plays a fundamental role in enriching lives and strengthening societal bonds in our communities. It is a unifying force – connecting people and cultures across language, geography and time. It illuminates our lives and opens our minds to possibilities.
As the leading patron of art in Asia, we have been championing Southeast Asian art and artists in the region over the past four decades, particularly through our regional flagship art programme, the UOB Painting of the Year (POY) competition. In this pandemic year, we introduced a competition theme – Solidarity for the 2020 UOB POY to draw out the importance of being united in trying times. The regional UOB Southeast Asian POY winning artwork, Isolated Garden by Indonesian artist, Mr Prabu Perdana, depicts self imposed solitude to stand in solidarity with the community to combating the community spread of COVID-19.
