About ATM Overseas Cash Withdrawal
Q1. I heard that UOB cardholders can access their accounts via UOB ATMs when they are overseas? When did you launch this new service?
We have implemented a new service that enables UOB ATM cardholders to perform overseas cash withdrawals and balance enquiries at any UOB ATM in Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand.
This new service will be launched on 1 Oct 2008.
Q2. In which countries can I use my card?
Overseas cash withdrawals and balance enquiries can be performed at all UOB ATMs in Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand.
Q3: What type of cards can I use in these participating countries?
You can use your UOB ATM Card, UOB Debit Card or UOB Credit Card at any UOB ATM in these participating countries. In order for you to use them, your UOB Debit / UOB Credit Card first has to be linked to either your Savings or Current Account.
Q4: What are the services available to me?
You can make cash withdrawals and perform balance enquiries while traveling in Malaysia, Indonesia or Thailand.
Q5: Can I perform funds transfers between the accounts I have from either UOB Singapore to UOB Buana / UOB Malaysia or UOB Thailand?
For the time being, Funds Transfers between countries are not available via UOB ATMs.
Q6: What type of accounts can I access when I'm in these participating countries?
You can access your Savings or Current Accounts that are linked to your UOB ATM card/ UOB Debit Card/ UOB Credit Card.
Q7: Can I use my ATM Card to perform any transactions over the teller counter?
This new service allows you to perform selected transactions at UOB ATMs in Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand. Overseas over-the-counter transactions are currently not supported via your ATM card.
Q8: How do I know which UOB ATM I can use?
You can use any UOB ATM in Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand.
Q9: Do I need to apply for this service?
This service will be automatically enabled for all UOB cardholders in the participating countries. There is no need for you to specifically apply for this service.
Q10: How much can I withdraw from my account when I'm overseas?
The same cash withdrawal limit applies when you are using your card overseas. For example: if your current cash withdrawal limit is S$3,000 per day, then this limit will apply whenever you use your card in Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand.
Q11: Can I request for a higher withdrawal limit since I'm traveling overseas?
The same withdrawal limit applies overseas as when you use your card in Singapore. This limit is designed to control your exposure in case of fraudulent transactions.
Q12. I'm a Privilege Banking Customer, how much can I withdraw when I'm overseas?
The same cash withdrawal limit applies when you are overseas i.e. you can still withdraw up to S$5,000 per account or up to S$10,000 per card. Note: Default limit is S$3,000. Customers need to apply to increase this to S$5,000.
Q13. How do I know what is the exchange rate used for my cash withdrawal transaction?
You can see the exchange rates used in the detailed transaction listing in your respective statement of accounts.
Q14: Do I know my available balance after performing the cash withdrawal transaction?
Your account available balance will be printed onto the ATM receipt issued when you perform a cash withdrawal.
Q15: Are there any fees and charges for using this service?
Yes. A flat fee of SGD$5.00 applies for each successful withdrawal transaction. Balance Enquiries are offered free of charge.
Q16: What is the fee charged to me for withdrawing cash on UOB ATMs overseas?
You will be charged a flat fee of SGD$5.00 per successful transaction.
Q17: Is there a cap imposed for per cash withdrawal transaction?
You may withdraw any amount that you require subjected to your daily cash withdrawal limit and the cash available in the ATM.
Q18: Is there a cap on the fee charged to me?
No. A flat fee of SGD5 is applicable for each successful transaction.
Q19: Are the any fees charged for performing balance inquiry on my account?
Balance enquiry transactions at overseas UOB ATMs are provided free of charge.
Q20: Can I choose the language option when using the overseas UOB ATMs?
All transactions will be displayed in English regardless of whether they are performed at UOB ATMs in Malaysia, Indonesia or Thailand.
Q21: Since I'm a frequent traveler to these countries, can I set my favourite transactions on the overseas UOB ATMs?
The favourite transaction set-up function is currently applicable only to UOB ATMs in Singapore.
Q22: Can I do a PIN Change on the overseas ATMs?
The PIN Change function can only be used at UOB ATMs in Singapore.
Q23: How safe is it for me to use overseas UOB ATMs?
UOB is committed to providing a secure ATM network. We have implemented various safeguards to ensure that your ATM transactions are secure.
Q24: What are some of the precautionary measures that I must take when I use my card in these countries?
These are some examples of precautionary measures which you should observe:
- Always shield the PIN pad when you are entering your PIN
- Ensure that there are no suspicious articles affixed to the ATM card insertion slot
- Never write your PIN on your ATM card
- Do not disclose your PIN to anyone
Q25: What if my ATM Card is lost while I am overseas?
If you lose your card while traveling, kindly contact UOB Singapore Call Centre at 1800 222 2121 immediately to report your lost card.
Q26: Can I get a replacement card when I am overseas?
Replacement ATM cards can only be issued in Singapore. You can visit any UOB Group branch in Singapore to request for a replacement card.
Q27: What if my card is retained by any of UOB ATMs in Indonesia / Malaysia or Thailand?
You will need to request for a replacement card from UOB Singapore.
Q28: What if my account is debited and cash is not dispensed?
If you encounter any problems when using your card while overseas, please contact UOB Singapore Call Centre at 1800 222 2121 to report your case. Alternatively, you may also contact the Bank when you return to Singapore.
Q29: When can I expect my account to be credited for the failed transaction?
The turnaround time for settling inter-country cash discrepancies is about 2 weeks.
Q30. Can I still withdraw cash from non-UOB ATMs?
Yes, you can still continue to withdraw cash from non-UOB ATMs bearing the PLUS logo.
Q31. How do I find UOB ATMs in Indonesia / Malaysia and Thailand?
We have an extensive ATM network in the region.
- Indonesia: 128 ATMs (Branches:108, Off-site locations: 20)
- Malaysia: 85 ATMs (Branches only)
- Thailand: 369 ATMs (Branches: 169, Off-site locations: 200)
Q32. I performed a cash withdrawal in Thailand recently and noticed that the description of the transaction in my statement has changed from "IATM" to "RATM". Can you please explain the difference?
"RATM" and "IATM" are codes that we use to indicate transaction types. Transactions made at UOB ATMs in these participating countries are indicated as “RATM”. Transactions made at other overseas ATMs are marked as "IATM".
Q33. The service charge for cash withdrawals at UOB Malaysia ATMs has now been increased from SGD$2.00 to SGD$5.00. What is the rationale for this increase?
We have revised the cash withdrawal service charges to a flat fee of SGD$5.00 for all overseas ATM cash withdrawals. (Note: This SGD$5.00 fee applies from 1 Oct 2008).
Q34. I'm a Visa Debit Gold/Campus Debit Card holder and often perform cash withdrawals at UOB Malaysia ATMs. Do I still enjoy waivers on my first 3 overseas withdrawals?
Yes, you can continue to enjoy the fee waivers on your first three (03) overseas cash withdrawals each month.
Q35. I recently performed a balance enquiry on my account at the UOB ATM in Thailand and noticed that the balance displayed appears incorrect. Can you let me know why? (Customer mistook the available balance as balance)
The balance printed on the ATM receipt is the Available Balance in your account.
Q36. Can I make a cash advance using my UOB Credit Card at overseas UOB ATMs?
Yes, you can make cash advances at overseas UOB ATMs subject to the available balance for your credit card account.
