United Overseas Bank Launches The 26th Painting Of The Year Competition
20 April 2007, Singapore
United Overseas Bank Limited ("UOB") is pleased to announce the launch of the 26th UOB Painting of the Year Competition and Exhibition ("POY"). POY is part of UOB's efforts to promote greater interest in local arts, as well as encourage and recognise local artists and their work. Since the inaugural Competition held 26 years ago in 1982, the Competition has grown in scope and prestige and has come to be regarded as a major art Competition and a key arts event in Singapore.
Many past winners of the Competition have gone on to attain both local and international recognition which includes Goh Beng Kwan, Thomas Yeo, Chua Ek Kay and Anthony Poon have gone on to attain greater local and international recognition. The Competition is now considered a key event in the local arts scene.
Just to put it in perspective, a record-breaking 1,380 entries from 954 artists were received for last year's Competition. This was an increase of almost 50% when compared with the number of entries submitted in 2005. In fact, all categories of the competition saw an increase in the number of entries. The overwhelming overall response affirms UOB's commitment and efforts to provide creative opportunities for our local artists to exercise the mind and explore various mediums.
UOB, once again, invites photographers and painters in Singapore to take part in this prestigious Competition. It is open to all Singapore citizens, permanent residents and foreigners who hold employment pass, work permit or student pass.
