UOB Staff Contributes S$195,000 To Tsunami Victims
Close to S$600,000 donated by UOB
06 January 2005, Singapore
United Overseas Bank Limited (“UOB”) is pleased to announce that its staff in Singapore has rallied together to donate S$165,000 to the Singapore Red Cross Society’s Tidal Wave Fund (“the Fund”). Staff from UOB Malaysia has also raised S$30,000. In Thailand, UOB staff are continuing their internal fund raising efforts.
UOB Chairman Mr Wee Cho Yaw kicked off the in-house donation drive with a S$100,000 contribution. In addition, UOB Singapore donated S$100,000 while S$200,000 was donated by UOB’s banking subsidiaries in Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand to the relief funds in their respective countries. This brings UOB’s total contribution to the tsunami victims to S$595,000.
To facilitate donations to the Fund, UOB opened up its bank channels to allow customers to donate via Internet Banking and Phone Banking. Since the service was made available on 31 December 2004, the Bank has to date collected over S$140,000. UOB customers who wish to make donations can continue do so through UOB’s channels.
