UOB Bank Group Announces
Its Nominating Committee Members Singapore, 14 March
2000 - The UOB Bank Group is pleased to announce that three new directors
have joined the Board of United Overseas Bank Limited. They are Mr Wong Meng Meng,
Mr John C Dean Jr and Mr Sim Wong Hoo. The UOB Bank Group is also pleased
to announce that a Nominating Committee, comprising the following directors, has
been formed: - Mr Wong Meng Meng - Chairman of the Nominating Committee
- Mr Wee Cho Yaw - Chairman & Chief Executive Officer
- Mr Ernest Wong Yuen
Weng - President
- Mr John C Dean Jr - Director
- Mr Sim Wong Hoo - Director
The profiles of the three new directors are as follows: Mr Wong
Meng Meng, 51, Senior Counsel with Wong Partnership, is a member of the Board
of Legal Education and a member of the Military Court of Appeal, Singapore. He
is an Accredited Arbitrator of the Singapore International Arbitration Centre,
the American Association of Arbitrators, and the Center for International Commercial
Dispute Resolution at Hawaii. Mr John C Dean Jr, 52, is President and Chief Executive Officer of Silicon Valley Bancshares, and the Chairman of Silicon
Valley Bank, its wholly-owned subsidiary. Silicon Valley Bank specialises in providing
banking services to emerging growth technology and life science companies. Mr
Dean has been a banking professional for more than 20 years. Mr Sim Wong
Hoo, 44, is Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of Singapore-based
Creative Technology Ltd (NASDAQ: CREAF), the company best known for its pace-setting
Sound Blaster audio card. Mr Sim is a director of a number of companies in the
Creative Group. He received the Singapore Businessman Of The Year Award twice,
in 1992 and 1998. Commenting on the appointment of the new directors, UOB
Chairman & Chief Executive Officer, Mr Wee Cho Yaw said, "The UOB Bank Group has
been looking for new and younger Board members, with the appropriate expertise
and relevant experience, to help the Group meet the many challenges in the new
millennium. We are very pleased and delighted that these three distinguished gentlemen,
who are leaders in their chosen careers, have agreed to join our Board and Nominating
Committee."
